What To Bring to Girls State
First and foremost, bring a water bottle with a removal top to get the water, jiuce, etc. This is for sanitary reasons.
BEDDING – Sleepware!
Sheets, blankets, pillows & cases, are provided but if more comfortable, bring your own.
TOWELS – Bring a beach towel for swimming. CAMP TOWELS ARE NOT ALLOWED AT THE LAKE..... Towels, hand towels and washcloths are provided for showers.
TOILITRIES – All personal toiletry items needed for a week. SHOWER ARTICLES MUST BE PLASTIC – NO GLASS!
Only shower shoes allowed in shower part or barefoot………. Or you will have bath house clean up duty.
DRESS CODES: Sessions: We use school attire regulations.
NO MINI SKIRTS, MINI BLOUSES, SPAGHETTI STRAPS OR SHORT SHORTS. You will be asked to change if these appear.
For Speeches - Informal Dresses, Skirts, Dress Pants,Blouses, Shirts, Comfortable shoes.
Free Time: Blue Jeans, Shorts, Sport Clothes.
Inauguration: Cocktail dress, nice slacks, blouse.
WEATHER – Sweaters, Rain Gear. We are 2nd session this year.
BE PREPARED!
CAMPAIGNS – . NO PREPARED CAMPAIGN MATERIALS ALLOWED. IF YOU COME WITH IT PREPARED, IT WILL BE TAKEN AWAY! You may bring cardboard, Construction Paper, Felt Tip Pens, Scissors, Masking Tape, Scotch Tape, whatever else you need to make Posters while at Girls State. NO LOOSE GLITTER ALLOWED. Basic supplies will be available from Girls State.
TALENT SHOW: Bring Musical Instruments, Music, Dance Costumes, Props, etc. Talent Show Thursday June 17, 2010. We encourage all citizens to be a part of it. Remember that the American Legion Auxiliary is the largest patriotic organization in the nation.
SPORTS – Swimming (remember to bring your own beach towel) in lake, paddle boats, volleyball court provided.
FACILITY TOWELS ARE NOT ALLOWED AT THE LAKE FRONT.......
MISCELLANEOUS – Needle & Thread, Safety Pins, Camera and supplies. You will also need a notebook and pen for notes.
MONEY – Do Not bring a large amount. There is a snack store at recreation time. There will also be photos available of individuals, city, group and staff. I am working on getting a CD made of all the photos taken by the staff and offer that to the girls for a nominal price.
CELL PHONES/IPODS/LAPTOPS – Are allowed during free time ONLY . NO MESSAGING DURING SESSIONS EITHER. There is no internet service.

Any damage to the facililty property will be the responsibility of the person (s) involved. The Girls State Program is liable for all damage to the grounds.
